What has happened to free speech in California? Once the bastion of the freedoms of the Hippie era, we now arrive at elected officials who believe that they have the right to bully and attack anyone who informs parents of their legal rights.

What’s going on?
The VAC worked with Informed Parents of Silicon Valley to hand out this bookmark on the sidewalks at public schools. We did not get into arguments, just got the info out. Many parents were grateful. We were not aggressive. (Who would read a bookmark that someone aggressive gave you? So no, we just handed them out.) The school did lie and claim we were not allowed to stand on the sidewalk. We have lawyers in our group so that didn’t work for them.
At McKinley School District in San Jose enough parents must have started opting out (the school won’t tell us how many). Sadly the majority of the school board rather than being pleased that parents were being informed, decided to attack the lone board member Marc Cooper who supported parents being informed (remember that folks – only one member was for parents knowing about what is happening with their kids).
They attacked him and vilified him. So we showed up. Over 100 of us showed up for that board meeting.
There were a minority on the board’s side at the meeting. One, a teacher, presumably from the school district, boasted and documented that she happily violated parents ethnic, cultural and religious values by given their child material that parents had expressly said they didn’t want the child to have.
I’m assuming there’s an ethics violation here that would allow the parents to sue the district, the school and the teacher. It is as an act of hate that violates cultural and ethnic values.
The City of San Jose
Now the city of San Jose (ok currently just two members of the council, Torres and Foley) feeling that opposing the freedom of information is a new American value, wanted the 10th largest City in the US to be used to attack those they disagreed with. So they decided to condemn the VAC and Informed Parents. They are bullying every board member to sign this resolution (below). And if any board member dares not to, then apparently the entire LGBTQ+ lobby will make sure they are called transphobes and homophobes and haters and face an uphill battle to re-election.
This meeting will be/will have been on Oct 17th, 2023 at the San Jose City Hall at 1:30pm. You probably want to be there.
But this has never been an us vs LGBTQ+ battle. In fact, many Gays and Lesbians and even Drag Queens agree with the principle that parents should have the power to opt out their children from any age or sexually inappropriate exposure, especially if it violates their ethnic or cultural values.
If it really was an us vs LGBTQ+ battle then any church, Mosque, Islamic Association, or culture that believes in Traditional Marriage and sexuality should also be getting a letter of condemnation. But you don’t see that.
Yet this battle is precisely that. If they sign that resolution, every board member will be attacking every Evangelical Church, Mosque and Islamic Association in San Jose and Santa Clara, not to mention a direct attack on many Hispanics who believe in Traditional Marriage and sexuality, which is part of their heritage. And they will be saying to every parent – you don’t get to find out your legal rights because we choose to force your kids to learn something your faith and culture disagrees with.
We will be saying this at the next election.
